About
Hi! I am Sally
Welcome to my blog
I’m a full-time working Mum, and happily single parent. I live in Lancashire with my teenage daughter, Flea, and our West Highland terrier, Teddy. Some of us are more domesticated than others.
I started this blog in 2009, as a place to capture the little moments in our family history. All these years later, it’s still here, still capturing moments.
This is not a glossy lifestyle blog. I tried to do that, but then I remembered I can’t cook, have no sense of style, and am a bit forgetful. Instead, this is the story of a chaotic, fun-loving family that loves to laugh, and find adventure near and far.
All About Flea
Flea is a brilliant, funny teenager with a passion for books, surfing, and anything that involves being high up, going fast, or getting soaking wet.
She’s currently studying English and History at university in Scotland. She’s a keen hockey player, loves movies and video games, lives for Netflix, and has a passion for travel.
If you asked her, Flea would tell you that everything makes her happy. Above all, she loves an adventure. Lately she’s been learning to ski and snowboard, and recently helped plan our American South road trip. She’s the world’s best travel companion and now she’s at uni, I miss her like crazy.
Yes, Flea is a nickname. I’m not THAT evil.
All about Sally
I am a busy working Mum, with a passion for watersports, low-brow TV and exploring new places. My day job is writing about business and technology for companies and newspapers in the UK and US. In my spare time, I love going to the cinema, meeting friends for long chats, and volunteering with our local Beaver Scout group.
My other passion is travel. I love planning and taking road trips, near and far. I’m always looking for new adventures on the water, and love to visit the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands to explore new places by kayak or paddleboard. I am a very bad, novice snowboarder. I sometimes write about the need for more inclusive clothing in both water sports and snow sports.
I am mostly based in Lancashire which means that it rains a lot and I generally don’t want to be invited to events in London that start at 9am. I’m sometimes referred to as a control freak but honestly, I have no idea where such silly notions might come from – doesn’t everyone alphabetise their spice rack?
All About Teddy
The best part of our family is probably Teddy, the world’s best dog. She’s a West Highland Terrier who has (almost) grown out of her bad habits but still can not be trusted near squirrels or cats. Teddy loves running on the beach, running at the woods, running up hills and generally just running. One of Teddy’s best skills is posing for photos.
